Sustained neurotransmission during periods of intense
presynaptic activity requires rapid recycling of synaptic
vesicle membranes and proteins following neurotransmitter
release. Many synaptic vesicles are recovered via compensatory
endocytosis, a form of clathrin-mediatiated endocytosis.
I will be using acute protein inactivation combined with
live imaging of synaptic vesicle cycling to quantify the
effects of endocytic proteins on the kinetics of synaptic
vesicle reformation. In parallel, I will also be using
functional genomic approaches to identify additional molecules
involved in synaptic vesicle endocytosis.
