I am interested in the molecular mechanisms underlying synapse maintenance and especially how they relate to human disease. Synapse loss is an early step in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's Disease and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's Disease).  It is my hope that a more thorough understanding of synapse maintenance mechanisms will ultimately lead to effective therapeutic interventions.
