A little O'Farrell lab history
 
 
 
While working towards his PhD at the University of Colorado, Pat developed 2D gel electrophoresis
 
· This story is reported in the Journal of Biological Chemistry
 
· The original manuscript was also published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry 		 
 
 
engrailed expression pattern   Later, when Pat established his own lab at the University of California he focussed on the development of the early embryo, in particular the cloning and characterization of the homeodomain transcription factor, Engrailed
 
 
In the 90s the lab shifted focus to the developmental control of the cell cycle, in particular the early syncytial embryo and the midblastula transition (MBT)   string expression in the embryo
 
 
 
 
Later (and current) work in the lab expanded to include the studies of the hypoxic response, innate immunity, and mitochondria regulation and function
