Connecting and printing to a USB Printer over TCP/IP

Note:
- Your Macintosh computer needs to have Mac OS 9.0.4 or higher and USB Print Sharing installed. If you have Mac OS 9.04 or higher, you can download USB Print Sharing.
- The USB printer must be physically connected to another Macintosh computer that has the "USB Print Sharing" control panel turned on. For instructions on how-to setup a USB printer share, visit our how-to page.

Before you start, determine what type of USB printer you want to print to. Write down the name of the manufactor and model of that printer. Find the Install CD for that printer, otherwise download the installers directly from the manufactor's web site, i.e., Epson or HP

Install the printer software on your computer. Although the USB printer is not physically connected to your computer, your computer needs the software to print.

Open the Control Panel named, "USB Print Sharing"

Click on the "Start" button on the USB Print Sharing control panel. This will turn USB Print Sharing On. Next, click on the "Network Printers" tab.

Click on the "Add" button.

Next, browse the local network for Share USB Printers. Click "Choose," to select the USB printer you want to print to.

The printer should be listed under the Network Printers tab, also check the "use" box next to the printer if it is not already checked.

Open the "Chooser," select the Inkjet printer driver in the left pane, highlight the USP printer port on the right. Close the Chooser window and click "OK."

When you select print, from any application, you will see the print dialog from that printer. Try sending a test print. Also, Epson inkjet software does not create a desktop printer, unlike, HP inkjets.
