The feature called Allow fast saves is suppose to make saving documents faster. The fact is if this feature is turned on, over the time, it will take longer to save that word file and the file grows in size.
1. Go to the Menu bar, select "Tools" and go down to "Preferences..."
2. Click on the "Save" tab, un-check the box next to "Allow Fast Saves", and click "OK". This will turn off the Allow Fast Save feature.

3. Next, got to the Menu bar and select "File" bring it down to "Save As..." You can either rename the document or keep the same name. This will save the file as new document, smaller file size.
