Technical Information on Wireless Ethernet

Biochemistry and Biophysics Labs CANNOT and MAY NOT setup or install their own Wireless Networks without the consent, supervision, and consultation of the Biochemistry Tech Support along with cooperation from ENS. This effort is necessary to ensure that every measure is taken to meet the current security standards and network set forth by UCSF.

Wireless Ethernet is based on specifications developed and standards set by a group of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), the 802.11 and 802.11b specifications apply to wireless Ethernet. Data speeds have a maximum of 11Mbps and operates at frequencies in the 2.4GHz region of the radio spectrum.
