My team employs a variety of complementary in vivo and in vitro approaches to interrogate the mechanisms by which neural stem cells integrate signals from their environment to differentiate into specific cell types in the developing nervous system. Our primary focus is to understand how dynamic intracellular calcium signals are regulated in the embryonic brain to orchestrate differentiation, with an eye towards uncovering how these fundamental mechanisms are altered to give rise to neurodevelopmental disorders, neurodegeneration and brain tumor formation.
